hand-painted

I once read somewhere that even as late as 1985 most of the billboards in China were still hand-painted. Being familiar with these from my travels in India – they were often truly stunning -- i'm quite curious to see what the current billboards here look like. Alas, not many painted ones. There are many different types, fortunately also posters with the typically Chinese lotus flower or peony. These are such important symbols in China and so beautiful to paint.

Ergens ooit gelezen dat er in 1985 nog vooral geschilderde billboards waren in China, deze zijn bekend uit India en die zijn vaak echt prachtig. Daarom ben ik erg nieuwsgierig naar de huidige affiches hier. Helaas weinig schilderingen. Er zijn wel veel verschillende soorten,
gelukkig zijn er ook affiches met als symbool de lotus of de pioenroos. Dit zijn toch belangrijke symbolen van China en mooi om te schilderen.
